JAK inhibitor cream for Vitiligo and Alopecia
Ruxolitinib is an oral medicine used to treat blood cell problems. Tofacitinib is an oral medicine used to treat arthritic diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. They are both in the JANUS kinase (JAK) inhibitor family. When formulated as creams and used off-label, they have been shown to help skin diseases like alopecia totalis and vitiligo. These diseases do not have really effective treatment options and it may take several months to see results. They are not available from places like Walgreens or CVS. They are specially made by compounding pharmacies. Only a small amount is needed to cover the area. increasing the frequency and/or amount will not necessarily bring about better results. An article published in the Lancet just this July showed that the 1.5% rux cream used twice daily for 3-6m can help some people get as much as 50% improvement.
